Trigger points and pain in the shoulder - Part I

Trigger points and pain in the shoulder - Part I -

I became much more familiar with the trigger point of reference models and processing them on both recent years since I started to use techniques of functional dry needles. A couple of the most common trigger points I finally dry needling and / or using Graston Technique to treat in the shoulder are the spiny and the small round. Active trigger points in these muscles can refer pain to the anterior portion and the shoulder of the medium, and occasionally also the pain in the arm

See the typical trigger points and models reference below.

Trigger Points and Shoulder Pain - Infraspinatous TrPs

Teres Minor Trigger Point

A patient current mine presented with R shoulder blade pain for a period of 2 years. trunk rotation was limited to 50% bilaterally (dysfunctional and painful - DP) and the extension of the shoulder internal rotation R (TRA) only reach L4 (DP). Palpation of the spinous trigger point (the top and side) raised a major pain in the anterior shoulder and slightly down the side arm reproduces the typical pain. The teres minor trigger point referred pain in the deltoid region of the medium.

Position trigger point dry needling of these trigger points of the trunk of the patient's rotation improved to 0% (dysfunctional again, but not painful now) and R shoulder TRA T9 (DP yet, but much less pain).

Follow up with corrective exercises, in this case, thoracic rotation mobility and stabilizing the scapula, full trunk rotation was achieved without pain and R shoulder even more improved MRE to T7.
